to the website of the Nutrition in Prevention & Therapy research group at the Intitute of Nutritional Sciences, Justus-Liebig-University Giessen, Germany. Our interdisciplinary team is dedicated to explore the underlying mechanisms of brain ageing and of neurodegenerative diseases and it`s modulation by food-based prevention and pharmacological intervention.
To understand neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer is one of the major challenges of the 21st century since the global trend in the phenomenon of population aging has dramatic consequences for public health, healthcare financing and delivery systems in the world.
Prof. Dr. Gunter Peter Eckert who leads the reserach group is full-professor for nutrition in prevention and therapy. He works at the interface of nutrition, nutritional medicine and pharmacology. Together with an in-depth knowledge in toxicology his expertiese as food-chemist and pharmacologist allows him the competent assessment of food and its differentiation from drugs.
The research group has emerged from the former nutritional-neuroscience research group primary established at the Goethe-University of Frankfurt. After relocation from Frankfurt to Giessen the reseach group is developing its topics further and henceforward operates as Nutriton in Prevention & Therapy (NuPrevenT).
